Shuffle

29 06 2009

I just thought that my addiction to Wheesung  has come to the next level.  Since I started listening to K-POP, i have maintained a Best of Wheesung Playlist on my iPOD and iTunes.   These are the Wheesung songs that I have totally abused for the past two years.

Last week i tried to shuffle play using all of Wheesung’s songs.   I know how intelligent the apple applications are so chances are it will be able to recognize the songs that I frequently listen to along with the least ones and do a mix of it during shuffle.  Funny but I find thrill with it.. guessing the first song to play and waiting for the next song, trying to figure out the title and the album to which it belongs.  Crazy isn’t it but I get a bit excited .    It’s refreshing to hear a mix of his songs.   I know its crazy to say or in some extent unbelievable, that you can stand to hear all his songs but there are honestly some songs that you play just once in a while.  So in an album perspective the 4th Album – Love? Love! Love… is what I can tolerate to hear every song again and again.

While doing this shuffle play, I  thought of Wheesung songs that I suppose did not hit the mainstream but were so good…at least on my opinion and taste.   Well, this may not be true at all but my basis for saying ‘non-mainstream’ is that these songs were not as popular as the case of  Andwaenayo,  Inyeon Imyeon, With Me etc.

Maybe the other Wheesung fans out there got their own list of non-maintream Wheesung songs that they are truly in-love with.   These are some of the songs that I definitely consider one of his bests.

사랑은 (Sarangeun – Love Is) of course tops my list.  Up until now, I still have hopes of searching for a video of its live performance.   To me this is his best R&B song that never made it mainstream.

Love Hero I guess got the same fate with 사랑은.  I almost thought that this will be the second song for promotion after Love is Delicious.  Surprisingly it was 다쳐도 좋아 (Dachyeodo Choa – Even if it Hurts) which is actually good as well. I was thinking this collaboration song with ‘J’ is equally great.

차안남녀 (Cha.an.nam.nyeo – A Man and Woman in Car) is another song  worth listening to over and over.  You will be able to appreaciate Wheesung’s control of voice in this song.  I must say Wheesung is just too good in singing sad songs.  I know this song is about break up in a car — and you can almost hear his heart in the way he sang it.  Reading the lyrics it was very true… a break up is always sad and in a situation where it happens in a car, I bet you wouldn’t even have the sense to hear the noise outside.   (Trivia: cut and paste the Hangul title in Google Translate — you will be surprised to see how Google translates it)

가 (Ka – Go) -  I love how this song seems to endlessly unravel to climax. I am not sure if this perfectly fits how I feel listening to the song but it’s like a roller coaster ride that after the song finishes you would say ‘oh it’s done’  when your emotions are still up there.  Just like 차안남녀 it shows  the beauty of Wheesung’s voice without going to far on belting for the high notes.

커다란… 너무 커다란  (Kodaran… Neomu Kodaran – Great… So Great)  This is a very short song, in fact I am thinking it’s  seems to be an Outro to the 4th Album being the last song before the bonus track.   Setting aside again the lyrics, this song got one of the best falsettos from Wheesung — I love it.  I don’t know what this song excatly means.  It speaks of the pain of loving someone more than one’s self but towards the end it seems to be sending a message of ‘change’ driven by a deep scar.  And this is the last album after YG.  I don’t know if this is really a song for a girl but maybe for a different kind of love — considering himself a fool for listening and believing.   Nevertheless I love it for the piano and the voice.

하늘에서 (Haneuleseo – From the Sky). This song gets to be performed by Wheesung once in a while but I guess this is likewise not as popular as the other songs.   I always say the jazzy undertone makes a song for easy listening.   I can actually imagine a good black R&B singer singing this like as if it was a jazz song — voice raises and dips in a nice tempo.

Luv Shine gets to be performed once in a while too. It’s from the 4th album and I like it’s beat.  As usual, Wheesung’s rendition does it.  Sings it from the heart.. makes me really wonder the number of break ups he had.  How can there be so much feelings for songs of this type.   I am specifically moved on the last part of the song that goes…

This is the last 2 lines of the second to the last stanza and the last stanza.   Maybe I should post the lyrics of this song in the Lyrics tab.  It’s nice even if its a bit sad.

Now I sound like reviewing the fourth album becausese 왜 나만 (Wae Naman – Why Only Me) is a good as it get song.  There is groove in it… the rap infused in the song was a good complement.  I am not sure if it was Wheesung doing the background rap since at some point he entered with his vocals.

Oh no.. I don’t think I can end this post.  I’ll go crazy thinking about all his songs.  I’ll just go on shuffle play later when I drive way back home.

I agree that 사랑은 is one of the best song of his. I also hope to listen to his live.
Love Hero, I luckily got a chance to listen to this song 4 times cuz he performed it during The Man Concerts. (Yes, I went to the concert 4 times all.)

I think that 커다란 너무 커다란.. is not a love song. It’s kinda confession of his thought as a singer. (Briefly: I couldn’t believe that I got the popularity because I’m very doubtful person. I’m not good enough and my songs are very akward to me. But the songs brought people to me and made me stand on the stage. It was huge for me to feel touched…)

하늘에서 was sung at his birthday party in Feb, 2009. Of course, it was stunning. =)

As of today, he has a plan to have a joint concert at Jakarta 17th, August. (Tentative and don’t know the place and time. “Joint” is not certain yet) Let me keep it posted.

oh my if he is holding a concert in Jakarta I am definitely going there even for one night…….. thanks for letting me know. Keep me posted please. I have friends in Indonesia so I may be able to get ticket as soon as it becomes available.

I also have the impression that 커다란 너무 커다란 is not a love song because of some of the lines… I don’t understand it fully. But I love how it was sang by Wheesung. The voice is amazing.

So much to say on his songs^^ I understand that.
True, Wheesung is really good at singing sad songs…the ballad songs in my mp3 player are mostly from him, as I’m not into ballads usually. He made me like ballads lol And especially sad ones.

My top 3 for his
>6th album:
01. Real Slow gotta go again (intro)
02. Perfect Man
and the other one…a sad one, I forgot the name.

>5th album:
05. Man and Woman in a car
09. This kind of situation
12. Standing in front of separation

I didn’t like “Love is delicious”. Am I the only one? lol

>4th album:
04. “Walk to the sky” or “From the sky”
07. Why only me
09. Luv Shine

Top 4 now lol
>2nd album:
02. Set me free
04. Missing you
10. Dilemma
14. Angel

And “Son Top Dal”!! (OST Memories of Midair) I love this one, with the traditionnal feeling =) “We’re not Crazy” too. Ok, I stop here.

I’d say that Whee’s singles are not his best songs, sometimes yes, like Missing you, but I really prefer his other songs. This is why when i talk about Whee to people, I recommend them his albums and not his singles =) I also like popular songs like With U, Andwenayo, Good bye luv or Player.

I find it hard to recognize the names of the songs in hangul, I can’t read Korean =( But I googled them and I saw from which album they are from^^

And… is he talking about his career and thanking his fans in his “My Person” song? I like this one too.
Thanks Janis for the translation!

wow myra i also like Perfect Man…for me its the best song in 6th album. I also like Narak but its too depressing. In the 5th album Love Hero tops my list and of course Man and Woman in Car ~ whoa still have LSS. Also love Why Only Me in the 4th album.

hey you missed 3rd album =) this is where my MOST FAVORITE SONG is Sarangeun (Love Is). Also like the Outro in 3rd album i think cherrell likes it too (she actually introduced me to that part of the album). We are all Wheesung addict and I can’t stop talking about him and his music. I instantly becomes an Energizer Bunny when talking about him.

By the way not that I don’t like Love is Delicious but it wasn’t the song that got me most hooked in the 5th album =)
Nevertheless seeing him perform the song was like ~whoaaaa he is so charming and good.

To be honest, Love is Delicious is very controversial. Many of his old fans left him when he released 5th album and they expressed disappointment. But I’d like to respect his challenge. Also, I like Love is Delicious despite not my favorite.

Anyways, he mentioned that he will turn back to the old style with 6th album. He told me that he didn’t want to fail again.(During The Man concert) I think he regards 5th and 6th Mini as failure in terms of popularity. 6th Album seems a bit hip-hop R&B though…

You are right… “My Person” is about his career and thanking his fans. He wanted to sing this song in English. Son Top Dal means Crescent. Can be a new moon or an old moon either cuz Son Top means Nail.

One of my favorite is “Please” in the 1st album and 회상(Reminiscence), one of his digital single as an OST for sad Korean movie, “Eraser In My Head”.

Well, Janey! You are very true… that we all becomes an Energizer Bunny when talking about him. =)

Ok, I’ve just read your replies^^

I agree with Janey-bei: Wheesung is a versatile singer, true, and I liked the fact that he tried to do something more pop than usual. Changing is not always bad. Nice album (5th album). Not a failure. But not my favourite. So I’m not the only who dislikes Love is delicious =p
Even though I prefer Whee singing RnB songs. I would like a mix of “We’re not crazy”, “I’m Missing you” and “Perfect Man”. And maybe something less sad with more current melodies.

I think that the 1st album has too many ballads, and this is why I didn’t really like it (I love the intro though and 2 other songs). And I was not into the 3rd CD. I don’t remember what “Love Is” sounds like O_o

Yeah…Narak is too depressing =/ I don’t listen to it everyday lol

Energizer Bunny? You’re right!!

Hi Myra you should listen to Love Is (사랑은) in the 3rd album. It’s my favorite. It was a very good if not the best collobration song from Wheesung along with Big Mama’s Lee Jiyeong. It’s R&B.

5th album is considered failure???? it was good honestly very good. i think wheesung is one of those singers who have reached a point wherein he knows he has done well on the R&B genre so it was time to show people his versitility. I was a bit taken a back with that comment from him. Even if Love Is Delicious is not a favorite of mine… overall the 5th album is really good. in my opinion people who were disappointed with him on the 5th album are those do not dare change…

i like that he get to have albums of different music genre.. .because if he is stil lsinging the same genre today people might be saying the same thing too that they are disappointed for the same stuff.
